|I decided to do some research on birth rates in the medieval days.. the interesting thing I found is that the birthrate has not changed, what has changed is the amount of live births through "modern medicine" so I did some more research on the chance of a women getting pregnant and came up with hopefully workable rules for C&S 3rd and 4th editions.
In Teyrnas the PC is part of the world so they will have a family at one time or another.
When a Female character or NPC, starts her first period to when she starts menopause there is a percentage each month they will get pregnant when they lie with their husband or any man( we don't need to go into details), being that there are no reliable contraceptives.
The Average age a female starts her period is 12 years old and menopause starts about 50 years.
From the age of consent which in Teyrnas is 16 years to 25 years there's a 26% chance a female will get pregnant each month when she lies with a man/ her husband. 26 years and above you minus 1% per year for the percent chance of the woman getting pregnant i.e a 35 yr old woman would have a 16 % change of getting pregnant each month till she turns 36 years old then she has a 15 % chance of getting pregnant etc.
If we go into greater detail 50% of all (including the first 2 weeks when people don't know they are pregnant and never know they were) pregnancies end in miscarriage. That number drops to around 10-25% after the 3rd week. Women in there 20s-30s are around 10-15, while 35+ is about 25%. 80% of all miscarriages happen in the first 12 weeks. After 12 weeks or the first trimester the chance of miscarriage drops to around 1-3% depending on age and health of the mother.
